Crocheting coral is seriously easy, too! For the most basic piece, simply chain any number you like (10 is a good start), plus one for the turning chain, then (sc, inc) back along the chain, ch 1, turn, and continue in rows of (sc, inc) until you're satisfied with how it looks. Here's a pic of my first attempt, which was rather fun and easy:
I added a row or two using Fun Fur to make it extra fluffy.
You can also knit coral, but I suggest you get yourself a set of circulars with short ends, or you'll have some serious hand cramping before you're done. If curse words can be contained in a knit, this one has some seriously bad karma:
But, isn't it lovely? Pattern is here, and is very simple - you do a k1, yo repeat on the odd rows, and purl even on the even rows. Then bind off endlessly in i-cord for effect. Pretty, but painful. Although, now that I have some nice, short-ended circulars, I may try it again.
If anyone wants to make some coral to add to this project, I'd be happy to organize a collection and drop-off of completed coral.
